We are working on behalf of our longstanding client to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function within their organisation.

This is a hands-on management role, managing the complete payroll cycle across weekly and monthly payrolls while ensuring full compliance. You will act as the subject-matter expert for payroll queries, provide accurate reporting and analysis to senior stakeholders, and drive continuous improvements to payroll processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full end-to-end payroll process with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Ensure payroll records are maintained correctly and statutory submissions are completed on time
  • Act as the main escalation point for complex payroll queries and discrepancies
  • Maintain compliance with tax, pension, and employment legislation
  • Prepare payroll reports and insights for senior management
  • Support internal and external audits and implement process improvements
  • Lead, develop, and support a payroll team, providing day-to-day guidance and workload oversight
  • Stay up to date with legislative changes and ensure timely implementation

About You

  • Proven experience managing high-volume weekly and monthly payrolls
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory reporting
  • Confident using payroll systems and advanced Excel
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or developing payroll team members
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working to tight deadlines
  • CIPP qualification (Level 5 preferred) or equivalent practical experience
