The opportunity:

Are you a hands-on, commercially driven Finance Director who wants a seat at the table rather than a reporting line to one?

Our client is a high-growth, investor-backed business operating in the online world. Following a period of rapid customer growth and the launch of a new B2B proposition, they are now scaling both in the UK and internationally — and are looking for one of two different things, either:

·       An experienced, hands-on, leading from the front type of Finance Director

·       An up-and-coming, high calibre Financial Controller on the verge of becoming a Finance Director

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board, investors and external advisers, you will own the financial strategy, governance and risk framework of a fast-moving business with genuinely interesting complexity: revenue recognition, liabilities, tight cashflow management, multi-entity structuring and investor reporting.

This is a scale-up, not a corporate. Expect real influence, real pace, and a role that spans strategic and operational in the same week.

Why this business:

  • A true senior appointment — trusted adviser to the CEO across financial, legal, commercial and corporate matters
  • Backed by highly experienced sector investors with a track record of building successful businesses
  • Pivotal stage of growth: international expansion, new product lines and a developing B2B revenue stream
  • Entrepreneurial, decisive culture with minimal bureaucracy between idea and execution
  • Genuine scope to shape the operating model, corporate structure and growth strategy — not just report on them
  • Small, capable senior team where your contribution is highly visible

Key responsibilities:

Financial leadership and strategy

  • Lead financial strategy, planning and performance in line with business objectives
  • Own budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, including rolling three and five-year plans
  • Drive profitability, cost control and operational efficiency, challenging spend across all departments
  • Provide commercial analysis to support investment decisions, growth initiatives and international expansion

Reporting, control and risk

  • Oversee monthly management accounts, board reporting and statutory financial reporting
  • Ensure robust financial controls, governance and compliance; manage audit, balance sheet integrity and financial risk
  • Develop KPI and performance measurement frameworks
  • Oversee tax, insurance and regulatory compliance

Cashflow, treasury and banking

  • Lead cashflow forecasting, working capital management and treasury operations
  • Manage banking relationships, funding facilities and liquidity

Corporate, legal and investor matters

  • Support investor relations and shareholder communications
  • Lead on corporate transactions, international structuring and governance frameworks
  • Work with external legal, tax and corporate advisers on entity structuring, shareholder arrangements and contracts
  • Support the CEO in evaluating and executing acquisitions, partnerships and fundraising

Systems and team

  • Drive improvement of financial systems, reporting and processes, identifying automation and scalability opportunities
  • Lead, develop and mentor the finance team, and build commercial awareness across the wider business

About you:

Essential

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Proven track record as a Finance Director, Head of Finance or equivalent senior finance leader
  • Strong commercial acumen, with demonstrable experience supporting business growth and strategic decision-making
  • Solid experience across budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and financial controls
  • Experience producing board-level reporting and managing auditors, banks and external advisers
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

  • Experience in an investor-backed or PE-backed business
  • Exposure to international expansion, fundraising or acquisitions
  • Experience implementing finance systems and process improvements
  • Experience of complex multi-entity structures or corporate structuring work

How you work

  • Hands-on and comfortable moving between strategy and detail
  • Commercially minded, with a genuine focus on profitability, cash and shareholder value
  • Confident enough to challenge and influence at all levels, including the CEO
  • Resilient and agile — you thrive in a fast-paced scale-up rather than needing established process
  • Ownership mindset, high integrity, and committed to building a high-performance team
