Location: Tunbridge Wells
Salary: £50k - £65k
Contract: Permanent, full-time
The opportunity
We are recruiting a Group Management Accountant on behalf of a well-established international retail group with a growing global e-commerce operation.
This is a broad, hands-on role for a part-qualified or newly qualified accountant who wants genuine ownership rather than a narrow slice of the month-end process. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will produce the group's management accounts, own indirect tax compliance, and act as a key contact through the annual audit — while working closely with FP&A and budget holders across the business.
It suits someone who enjoys pace, variety and being close to commercial decision-making.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering accurate, timely monthly management accounts and financial reporting
- Preparing variance analysis and commentary against budget, forecast and prior year
- Supporting FP&A with annual budgets, forecasts and periodic reforecasts
- Partnering with budget holders to provide financial information and improve the accuracy of planning
- Producing cost centre reporting, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities
- Supporting year-end close, ensuring information is complete, accurate and on time
- Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and contributing to a strong control environment
- Preparing audit schedules and working papers, acting as a key contact during the external audit
- Owning group VAT, sales tax and indirect tax compliance, ensuring returns are accurate and submitted within statutory deadlines
- Driving continuous improvement across reporting, processes, controls and systems
What we're looking for
- Part-qualified fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Experience as a Management Accountant, Group Accountant or in a similar finance role
- Exposure to budgeting and forecasting
- An understanding of group reporting and consolidation
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing supporting schedules
- Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns, with a good grasp of indirect tax compliance
- A positive, adaptable approach — someone who takes the initiative, spots improvements and supports colleagues in a fast-paced environment
What success looks like
A clean, timely month-end close. Management accounts and commentary the business trusts. Budget and forecast submissions delivered to timetable. A clean audit with minimal control issues. Strong relationships with FP&A and budget holders.
