Job Ref

Location: Maidstone, office based

Contract: Full time, permanent

Salary: £65k - £75k DOE

Reporting to: Finance Director

The opportunity:

We are looking for a qualified Head of Finance to take ownership of the day-to-day running of the finance function and act as first-line support and deputy to the Finance Director.

This is a broad, senior role spanning financial control, management reporting, commercial finance and business partnering, with line management responsibility across four teams. You will be a member of the Senior Management Team, working closely with the Finance Director and wider senior leadership to drive financial performance and improve how finance operates across the group.

It will suit a technically strong, commercially minded accountant who wants genuine breadth: someone as comfortable owning the audit and statutory obligations as they are sitting with budget holders and non-finance leaders to explain what the numbers actually mean.

What you'll be doing:

·       Oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance function, deputising for the Finance Director as required

·       Line manage and develop four teams covering financial accounts, commercial finance, business finance and clinical coding

·       Ensure timely, accurate provision of management accounts, management information, budget holder reports and KPI reporting

·       Analyse financial performance and risk, maintaining constant awareness of the financial position and acting early to prevent problems

·       Produce forecasts, reports and ad hoc analysis to support decision-making at senior level

·       Support delivery of budget and EBITDA targets alongside disciplined cash flow management

·       Partner with senior leadership to identify and appraise commercial opportunities

·       Coach budget holders and non-finance colleagues so they understand their financial responsibilities and targets

·       Own and maintain financial policies and procedures, ensuring they are applied consistently

·       Manage the annual external audit process across the group

·       Ensure compliance with all statutory and group reporting obligations

·       Oversee the continued provision of shared financial services to other entities within the group

·       Lead finance initiatives that improve consistency, efficiency and process, championing continuous improvement and financial accountability

·       Operate on a 'no surprises' basis, keeping the Finance Director informed of material issues as they arise

Role requirements:

·       Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

·       Previous experience as a Head of Finance or Financial Controller

·       Technically competent and commercially minded, with a track record of guiding senior non-finance stakeholders through financial decisions

·       Experience across both the financial and commercial sides of a finance function

·       Demonstrable experience of leading and developing a team

·       Strong practical and modelling skills in Excel, alongside the wider Microsoft Office suite

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate finance for non-finance colleagues

·       Well organised, able to respond effectively to multiple competing priorities and work to tight deadlines

·       Sound critical thinking and analytical skills, with close attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

·       Genuine drive for continuous improvement and greater efficiency

On Offer:

·       £65k - £75k basic salary DOE

·       Career Development Pathway

·       Pension Scheme 4% employee and 4% employer

·       Private Health Insurance

·       25 Days annual leave (+ 8 Bank Holidays) plus extra time off for your birthday

·       Life Insurance
