Cobb & Jones Recruitment are partnering with a well-established and growing professional services organisation to recruit an Accounts Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking for a varied role supporting the day-to-day accounting function while developing broader month-end and management accounts experience.

The role is offered on a 30-hour basis, ideally across five days, although four days may be considered with Mondays off. Core office hours are typically 8am to 4pm, however there is flexibility around the working pattern for the right candidate.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting transactional finance processes, and assisting with payroll, reporting and audit requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

·         Processing and coding supplier invoices accurately

·         Managing supplier statement reconciliations and payment runs

·         Completing weekly bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies

·         Maintaining employee expense and company credit card records

·         Raising monthly sales invoices

·         Reconciling intercompany accounts

·         Supporting payroll administration, pension processing and HMRC-related activities

·         Preparing supporting schedules for month-end reporting

·         Assisting with journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations

·         Maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting external auditors

·         Managing finance-related inboxes and responding to queries promptly


About You

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

·         AAT qualification, part qualification or equivalent practical bookkeeping experience

·         Previous experience within an Accounts Assistant or Bookkeeping role

·         Strong purchase ledger, reconciliation and transactional finance experience

·         Good Excel skills, including functions such as SUMIFS and lookups

·         Experience using accounting software, ideally Sage 50

·         Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

·         The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines

·         A proactive and approachable attitude with strong communication skills


Exposure to payroll, month-end accounting activities and audit support would be advantageous but is not essential.
