The opportunity

An established, operationally focused business is looking for a Finance Business Partner to work alongside the teams running it’s operational functions and facilities.

The priority for this role is simple: helping operational leaders make better financial decisions and driving the commercials with them. You will own the P&Ls for both areas, get close to what really drives cost and profit, and be the person operational teams turn to when deciding on capital spend, pricing, tenders and new business opportunities.

It will suit a self-starter who takes the initiative rather than waiting for direction, enjoys working hands-on with the operation, and has the confidence to challenge non-finance teams and shape the decisions they make.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with operational leaders and their teams to support and influence day-to-day and strategic financial decisions
  • Drive commercial performance with the operational teams, identifying and leading initiatives to improve profitability
  • Provide commercially sound analysis on cost effectiveness, commercial viability and operational capability, for both ongoing operations and ad hoc projects including capital spend
  • Work with the commercial team on deal structures to meet customer requirements, and help develop new business models to capture new opportunities
  • Support tenders and pricing calculations
  • Take full ownership of the P&Ls, including post-management accounts review and reporting, forecasting, budgeting and target setting
  • Present regularly at partner meetings, turning financial information into clear actions
  • Prepare and maintain KPI decks, continually improving KPI reporting to sharpen understanding and drive profitability
  • Carry out detailed data analysis to help operational teams maximise their margins
  • Support the monthly management accounts process, ensuring ledger accuracy feeds through to management information and Board reporting packs
  • Review systems to ensure the data they produce is timely and accurate
  • Propose and lead projects that improve the transparency and accuracy of information on products and services
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to support key business decisions, and assist the Finance Director as required

About you

Essential

  • A track record of working with operational or non-finance teams to shape financial decisions and improve commercial outcomes
  • Experience in a business partnering, commercial finance or management accounting role
  • A genuine self-starter, able to work on your own initiative, spot opportunities and take ownership without close direction
  • The confidence to challenge non-finance teams and push for continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills, able to present financial information clearly to operational audiences
  • Excellent analytical skills and close attention to detail
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills

Desirable

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) preferred; part-qualified or studying candidates with strong commercial experience will also be considered
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence reporting tools
  • Experience in an asset-intensive or operational environment, such as logistics, transport, facilities management, manufacturing or industrial services
