The opportunity
A successful, profitable and entrepreneurial property development business is looking for a commercially sharp Financial Controller to act as the right-hand person to its Managing Director.
This is not a back-office finance role. The MD is entrepreneurial, moves quickly and wants a finance partner who thinks the same way: someone who understands the deals, sees the commercial picture and gives an honest, well-judged view on where the money should go.
The business grows by acquiring land and investing significant capital, so cash is everything. Managing cash flow astutely, planning ahead for major commitments and keeping a firm grip on working capital will be at the heart of the role. You will take full ownership of the finance function, sit on the senior leadership team and play a central part in decisions on what the business buys, when and how it funds it.
What you'll be doing
Cash and capital
- Own cash flow forecasting and management, making sure the business can fund its acquisitions and capital commitments with confidence
- Manage working capital and treasury, including relationships with banks and funders
- Model and assess acquisitions, capital investment decisions and growth opportunities, giving the MD clear, commercially grounded recommendations
Commercial partnership
- Work side by side with the MD as a trusted adviser, challenging and supporting decisions with sound financial insight
- Partner with the operational, land and planning teams to drive performance and profitability
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis that helps the business decide, not just report
Running the finance function
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team
- Produce timely, accurate monthly management accounts
- Own budgeting, forecasting, business planning and month-end
- Develop robust financial controls, systems and reporting processes
- Manage deadlines and compliance requirements

- Strong financial control, governance and reporting expertise
- Hands-on and proactive, with close attention to detail
- Thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
Desirable
- Experience in property development, real estate, construction or another capital-intensive sector
